Get to know me more

👋 Hello! If you’re new, welcome! And welcome back to repeat readers. Thanks for taking the time for today’s post. Hope you enjoy it!

Let me introduce myself

When I was young, I was skinny and weak. I participated in sports, only being competitive by focusing overwhelmingly on technique and strategy. Then I discovered competitive group exercise. I applied the same focus on technique and experienced great results. It was dramatic beyond what I thought I could achieve. The strength, capacity, and self-confidence I gained from those workouts changed my life.

After a time, I was routinely and repeatedly doing things I never thought I could do even once! I was so enamored with what I was experiencing that I decided to help other people achieve the same results. Help them get fit and feel healthy.

I attended Oregon State University for a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Exercise & Sports Science with additional study in Nutrition. Additionally, I am a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. See all my qualifications & certifications here https://www.joeydussel.com/about

I have coached individuals, groups, youth, teen, adult & older clients, athletes, and post-rehab, and helped many "normal" people regaining their health. Over years of coaching, I have learned there is no one 'system' that works for everyone—but there is something out there for everyone.

Nothing makes me happier than knowing I was involved in someone having a better life. I use my knowledge and skill to work with people to find what works most effectively with each individual.

Now, I specialize in helping motivated adults develop life-long habits to regain their health with individualized coaching with education, guidance, support, and accountability.

How long have you been working in fitness? Share a little bit about yourself.

I've been coaching & training since 2007 and love helping people make changes to their health and fitness. I owned a personal training studio in Corvallis, Oregon while going to college at Oregon State University where I studied exercise science and nutrition. Most recently I have been providing 1-on-1 fitness training at Nike World Headquarters along with my individualized online health & fitness coaching Transformation Possible.

What's your favorite workout?

A CrossFit workout named Barbara. It was the first workout that ever made me throw up, and it was the first workout that made me realize how adding rest intervals into the workout actually makes it much harder!

When you aren't at work, where are you?

My #1 favorite activity is Brazilian jiu jitsu. I love practicing, sparring, and competing! Outside of health & fitness, I love being outside! Ride, hike, climb, raft, etc!

Other than that I will be at home or out in the wilderness. I really like adventuring outdoors or just sticking around at home, just leading a very cool and relaxed life. Plus, there always seems to be a lot to do.

What do you love about fitness?

The challenge. I love going aginst the challenge because it makes me feel more powerful & confident.

What is your favorite book?

Easy, “The Wizard’s First Rule by Terry Goodkind”. Great story within the story

If you are watching TV or Netflix, what is your go-to show?

Jay Leno's Garage on YouTube...30 Rock…or Malcolm in the Middle…--one of my favorites haha!

What is your dream vacation?

A permanent one, where I travel wherever I want because I've built a business that allows me to "work" from anywhere or a passive income stream. But I loved spending time in the Philippines!
